Hurricane Katrina

The Aftermath Continues

Now that Hurricane Katrina has passed through South Florida and moved on to the Gulf of Mexico and up into New Orleans and Mississippi, the people of Hollywood, Dania and Miami start to put their lives back together.

We ourselves were without power for 72 hours. As Katrina got closer to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi we were watching the news coverage online via live feeds.

I have to wonder where Louisiana and Mississippi got their meteorologists from. We watched in amazement as these people reported the hurricane coverage as if they were from a backwoods, sheltered shack. I have never heard television reporters and anchors and staff state some of the things that I heard on that broadcast.

The feed we were watching was out of Biloxi, and the meteorologist actually said 'we don't need Max Mayfield and the National Hurricane Center anymore, we have Katrina on our radar now'. I was in total shock! I honestly almost fell out of my chair. Did this man actually think he didn't need the Hurricane Center? He then went on to say things such as .. this storm will produce much tornadic activity, but don't hold me to it... He repeatedly said 'don't quote me on this' and 'don't hold me to this' throughout his reporting. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

In my honest opinion, Mississippi needs to screen their meteorologist a little better because I could have probably done a better job an I know my husband who is a Florida native definitely could have covered this better.

The CNN reporters were awesome! Watching them out in the hurricane reporting from outside was incredible. Kudos go out to CNN and their field reporters! Keep up the good work folks!
