Hurricane Katrina Hit Florida

I Made It Through

Well, I sat through hurricane Katrina watching everything around me. Winds were blowing, threes were bending and it was raining. The people across the street were celebrating the entire time. Every time there was lightening, they cheered. They were setting off fireworks and bottle rockets all night.

I can't figure out why some people take these hurricanes so lightly. While trees are falling and homes are being ripped apart, people are so oblivious to the danger they are celebrating.

We sat through the storm and watched as mother nature let forth her wrath on our home in Hollywood Florida. Trees falling in our yard, lawn ornaments knocked down and the wind whipping anything it could find. Most of the storm hit before dark so I could see what was going on around me.

We lost power very early in the storm, so all we had was a battery powered tv/radio to listen to and some flashlights and lanterns to see by. Watching the weather reports was not much comfort though as we were watching Katrina draw closer and closer to our home.

This was my first real big storm so I was really paying attention. The eye of Hurricane Katrina moved over us turning the blustery day into silence. I walked outside and there was no breeze, no rain and no clouds. It was as if nothing was happening. It was really neat seeing how just minutes prior to this we were experiencing 90 mile per hour winds and penetrating rains.

I took some pictures of the storm, hope you like them.
